Mayweather vs Pacquiao – The Draw of the “Draw” at Vegas Sports Books

When it comes to boxing, there are a myriad of bets that can be made aside from taking the money line on either boxer. Propositions on whether the fight will go a full 12 rounds, one boxer winning by KO, and choosing the exact round the fight will end are some of the many bets one can make at a Vegas sports book.  A particular bet that generally has juicy odds is the “draw” or tie. Generally, the number you will catch for a draw is right around 20-1, although 25-1 is not that uncommon for some fights.

Taking a look at the upcoming Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight, Vegas sports books originally posted odds for the fight a couple of months ago, with the draw posted at 20-1 or 15-1 at most spots. Those numbers have changed dramatically however – the Westgate Super Book’s number on the draw has plunged all the way down to 8-1. That isn’t the lowest number in town; Caesars run sports books (Planet Hollywood, Caesars Palace, Bally’s, Flamingo) have posted odds on the draw at 5-1.With as rare as draws are in boxing, taking 5-1 makes no sense. Frankly, you are better off putting money on a 5-1 shot running in the 5th race at Churchill Downs.

Here’s a look at a few Vegas sports books’ number on the draw.

SouthPoint  10-1

William Hill (SLS, The D, State Line) 10-1

Westgate Super Book  8-1

Caesars  5-1

The judges scoring the bout a draw wouldn’t be a first for Pacquiao – in 2004 Manny boxed Juan Manuel Marquez to a draw when the two met in the ring at MGM Grand. Before that, Pacquiao boxed to a draw in 2001, so he has done it twice. For Mayweather, a draw would be a first.

  1. Have you seen any books offering a bet against a draw? Seems to me that would be pretty juicy now.
