Kansas State-Texas Under 50 – In Tom Herman’s first season in Austin, the Texas Longhorns have shown glimpses of potential future greatness, while concurrently providing reminders that they are a program trying to avoid a fourth consecutive losing season.

Depth is one of the Longhorns’ chief shortcomings, with offensive line perhaps the thinnest position group on the roster. So when All-America left tackle Conner Williams went down with an injury three weeks ago at Southern Cal, the Longhorns were forced to shuffle their line and thrust true freshman Derek Kersetter into the starting lineup.
While the offense lacks a dynamic quarterback; has few playmakers; and now is minus its top lineman, Texas’ defense has rebounded nicely after giving up 51 points and 482 yards in a shocking season-opening loss to Maryland.

Under ageless head coach Bill Snyder, Kansas State has elected not to get caught up in the up tempo offensive craze. The Wildcats use a more old-fashioned formula, combining sound defense with a running game often centering around the quarterback.

I’ll predict a total of approximately 130 plays Saturday in Austin and call for the game to remain under the total of 50.
