WEST VIRGINIA -9 over Texas  Charlie Strong’s second act in Austin has not been a whole lot different than the first. Brief periods of optimism clouded by historic blowout losses; the shifting of the recruiting landscape away from Austin; and the collective doubt of a demanding fan base as to how and when things might get better.

Aside from their head-scratching victory over Oklahoma a month ago, the Longhorns have demonstrated little progress in Strong’s second go-around.

The road has been particularly problematic for the Longhorns as they have been out-scored by a hefty 112-10 margin on their opponents’ home field in three games (Notre Dame, TCU and Iowa State).

West Virginia had lost four straight conference games, all to ranked opponents, before last week’s much-needed 31-26 home victory over Texas Tech.

The Longhorns are just the right tonic for the Mountaineers to continue their winning ways and start a streak of a different kind as the 2015 season enters the stretch run.

Take West Virginia and lay the 9 points.
