DuPars in Downtown Las Vegas – A Great Place to Look Over Your Sports Book Plays for the Day

Hello sports book fans, welcome to the old school spot on the corner of Fremont and Main in Downtown Las Vegas. First things first, however – I want to explain what originally brought me to DuPars. That would be the Five Hundy by Midnight Las Vegas Podcast. I kept hearing about how delicious the breakfast (the pancakes specifically) at DuPars was and how it was a great place for a morning breakfast or a late night “sober-up” meal. Well, there is another reason that this place is great for – going over your sports betting game plan for the day.

DuPars is located in the Golden Gate Hotel and Casino, which is the oldest hotel casino on Fremont Street. DuPars has a 1930’s diner theme with dark wood, old school counter seating, a myriad of baked goods, and customer service that harkens back to another time. Dupars is like something out of Boardwalk Empire. Although I’ve never seen Nucky Thompson stroll in, you are bound to see some Vegas revelers during the night-time hours trying to load up their stomachs after a night of imbibing on Fremont Street. Morning time however (by morning, I mean around 8 am) is much more subdued, albeit plenty busy with folks ready for breakfast.

The Golden Gate does not have a sports book, however DuPars is located directly across the street from The Plaza, where William Hill runs the sports book operation. I’ve spent plenty a morning strolling down Fremont Street to The Plaza to grab parlay cards and odds sheets and proceed to take them back to DuPars to look over my sports betting strategy for the day. This is a favorite and “lucky spot” for me to strategize my usual 3-team 10 point NFL teaser bet. A simple pleasure, but so enjoyable over a fresh cup of coffee. If you are driving from the strip, the valet at Golden Gate is a snap – and as a random observation, I will say the valet folks at the Golden Gate are some of the nicest in all of Vegas.

DuPars is a bit of an enigma in the Vegas market – there are an enormous amount of buffets or hip spots serving breakfast that are on the trendy side (Serendipity 3, Hash House, or the latest spot serving Red Velvet pancakes). There are only a few places in Vegas that fall outside of this trend. DuPars qualifies as one of these spots that, in Las Vegas, looks a bit out of place. But being on Fremont Street at the oldest hotel in Downtown, DuPars fits right in. Oh yeah – if you are in the breakfast mood, order the pancakes…they are the best flap-jacks I have ever tasted. Not feeling breakfast? Well, the $2.99 shrimp cocktail is a winner as well.
