Las Vegas Sports Book Still Honors Past

For those of you who are regular or even casual readers of this blog, you know my affinity for the Westgate Super Book. Even before the snappy new leather seats, VIP boxes, and upgraded giant HD screens, the Super Book was and is the type of place where the $20 parlay bettor and the $5,000 money line bettor rub elbows.

With all of the sweeping changes made to the Super Book over the past year, they have kept a few touches that preserve a link to its past.

The spire feature at the far corner of the Super Book, which is reminiscent of old school horse tracks such as Churchill Downs in Kentucky, was preserved. Just below, you’ll find all of the entries from horse racing tracks across the country and the day’s results. If only the community Racing Forms were still available at the adjacent counter….

The Man o’ War bronze statue has been a fixture at the sports book since I first started visiting the then “Hilton Super Book” back in the early 90s. Curiously located at the entrance to the buffet, this old piece of art work could have done away with when all of the remodeling was going on. Thankfully, it wasn’t….it’s one of the more underrated old school pieces of casino/sports book art in Vegas.

The iconic Las Vegas Super Book marquee sign at the rear entrance of the sports book still has that somewhat 1987-feel to it. The mismatch red/burgundy letters, the flashing racehorses, and gold veneer panels – it certainly does not match the now spiffy interior décor. However, this old school red channel letter sign still provides that familiar and welcoming feeling for those that visit the Super Book. It’s the gateway to a fun time for any sports fan.
