Dodgers World Series Odds – Even as Favorites, the Boys in Blue Offer Value

The first pitch of the 2014 Major League Baseball season won’t be thrown for another month, however baseball fans don’t have to wait 30 days to get some betting action on Major League Baseball. Las Vegas sports books are now offering a plethora of MLB future and proposition bets, with odds to win the World Series being one of the more popular bets amongst baseball fans visiting Vegas before the regular season starts.

While at the sports book looking over World Series odds (or future odds in any sport for that matter), it’s always good to look for value. Many experienced sports bettors will tell you never to lay big money on a heavy favorite when it comes to future bets, but rather, focus on a team like last year’s Red Sox that were listed at over 10-1 to win the 2013 World Series.

But in a “go against the grain” type of move, the Dodgers and their current 5-1 odds (LVH Las Vegas Super Book) may provide a bargain. Pre-season favorites to win the championship in the other big sports this year included the Miami Heat, who were as low as 3/2 (bet $200 to win $300) to win the NBA Championship and the Denver Broncos, whose Super Bowl odds hovered right around 3-1 for most of the NFL season.  The Dodgers, even as World Series favorites, offer much more value than the aforementioned Heat and Broncos did at the start of their respective seasons.

Although there are some questions this pre-season (and what MLB team doesn’t have some issues in the spring), the Dodger’s monster batting lineup, a deep pitching staff, and a revamped bullpen makes 5-1 look enticing. And let’s face it, if teams like the Yankees or Red Sox, who get big support in Vegas, had this kind of firepower both on the mound and in the batting lineup, they would likely be listed at 3-1 or perhaps even lower odds.

The Dodgers and the term “World Series” simply do not correlate nowadays, and won’t until they reach the Fall Classic again. If there was a year that the 26-year World Series drought will end, it’s 2014, and if there was any year to lay some cash on a World Series favorite – it’s this one. So, Las Vegas, give me the Dodgers to win the 2014 World Series at 5-1 odds. For me, betting the favorite in this instance is a good deal.
