Best Las Vegas Sports Books – Gold Coast Sports Book Review

Seats: Approximately 150

Screens: Approximately 40 screens throughout the sports book and 2 jumbo projection screens in the horse racing area. 90 individual flat screen terminals are available as well.

Many folks poke fun at the Gold Coast (a Vegas cabby I was chatting with referred to the place as the “Old Coast”), however if you are looking for an old school spot with plenty of seats, the Gold Coast Race and Sports Book is a place you might consider. The Gold Coast caters to horse bettors (about 3/4 of the sports book is dedicated to racing), however the sports betting here is lively and the connected bar has a myriad of seating and flat screens for sports viewing.

The Gold Coast’s Ping Pang Pang Chinese restaurant was featured in The Vegas Parlay’s List of Best Sports Book Food, however a much cheaper alternative is the long standing Gold Coast Hot Dog Cart, located in the sports book. For $1.50 (they were 75-cents back in the day) these tasty frankfurters can’t be beat – a nice old school touch for a postcard of a classic Vegas sports book.

Free drinks have gotten a bit tighter here lately and the Gold Coast has gone the drink ticket route, however tickets come easy for horse players and as we mention again and again, tipping the ticket writers a buck or two = more drink tickets. Also, be warned that this sports book can get a tad smoky.

The Gold Coast recently remodeled their rooms and have done a good job with the upgrades. Also at the Gold Coast, you will find some of the lowest rates for rooms at a strip-close casino. There is a free shuttle that runs from the Gold Coast to the strip (Bally’s) approximately every 15-20 minutes. One of my favorites here is also the breakfast buffet – great value at $5.99 and the made to order omelets are A+.
