Las Vegas Sports Book News – Hot Dog Inflation

The South Point sports book is best known for its liberal drink ticket policy and separate large areas for sports and horse bettors. But for regulars of this off-strip spot, nothing speaks to the sports book’s feel more than the 75-cent hot dog cart and the condiments smoothly applied right on the spot.

For the past 10 years (the resort opened in 2005), the legion of longtime South Point sports book and casino customers alike had grown accustomed to putting a dollar on the hot dog cart counter and getting their fresh frankfurter on a soft bun. Along with a quarter as change, that more often than not, went into the tip jar. Several months ago however, the hot dog cart had a new sign affixed to it – the price of the South Point sports book hot dog was going up to $1.25. Along with that came the new limit of 3 hot dogs per person. The horror.

On my recent visit to the South Point sports book, it didn’t seem like many patrons balked at the new price. Many, like me, probably just appreciated that the 75-cent price stayed that way for so long. The line at the hot dog cart ran deep, having a line a dozen long is about average on a normal weekend, although seeing more isn’t out of the ordinary. But as always, the wait to reach the hot dog cart was only a few minutes. The hot dog is as tasty as it was 10 years ago and for a “buck twenty five” it is still a bargain. And if you have a free drink ticket or two, you got yourself a ballpark-like meal to hold you over until dinner.
