Paul Stone’s College Football Free Pick of the Week

Nebraska-Purdue UNDER 55

The end of Darrell Hazell’s term as Purdue’s head coach is likely coming to an end at the conclusion of the regular season. Such likely change, however, oftentimes provides more opportunities for the discriminating handicapper rather than less.

At least somewhat due to shaky quarterback play, the Boilermakers have struggled to establish an offensive identity under Hazell. In their last seven Big 10 contests, Purdue has scored 16 or fewer points six times, with the high water mark being a 21-point outburst at Michigan State earlier this month.

Nebraska, meanwhile, will be without its standout quarterback Tommy Armstrong who is hobbled by a foot injury. His replacement, Kyker Fyfe, is a former walk-on who has taken few meaningful snaps for the Cornhuskers.

With a chance of showers and steady winds, coupled with Purdue’s limited offense and Nebraska’s walk-on quarterback, I look for this game to be a lower-scoring ground fest.
