Las Vegas Sports Books Growing

Wynn Getting Busy

August 1 is here and today is the day the Wynn will open its brand spanking new sports book for all to admire. Early images of the space look very impressive and the screens appear to be crystal clear – quite a contrast to the Wynn sports book screens of the past. With the new sports book also comes a new eatery called Charlie’s Bar and Grill. Their claim to fame is the Charlie Burger, which looks like an In N Out Double Double morphed with a Big Mac. Charlie’s Bar and Grill opens on August 8.

Encore Now Has a Sports Book Too

Encore will introduce its new sports book on August 8. The new sports book, located across from Surrender Night Club, directly adjacent to the Player’s Lounge, will be smaller in scale than the Wynn sports book. However, the Player’s Lounge has a very nice set up with pool tables, gaming areas and some nice flat screens. This space may be a hidden gem during times that the main sports book at Wynn is busy…and it can get busy.

Cromwell Joins the Sports Book Party

The high-limit slot machine area at The Cromwell is being replaced with an “intimate” sized 50-seat sports book. Think of something along the lines of the Golden Nugget sports book or the old sports book set up at Cosmopolitan. The small space will be dominated by a 288 square foot rectangular high definition video wall. However, don’t bring your Racing Form to this sports book as betting on the ponies will not be offered.

It’s curious why Caesars (owner of The Cromwell) did not introduce a sports book when the property re-opened in 2014. The resorts prior to the Cromwell (Barbary Coast and Bills Gambling Hall) both contained very popular sports books. Also, it would be nice to see something done at another Caesars owned property’s sports book located a short walk away – Bally’s. The sports book space at Bally’s is very large yet it has remained in its current state since the late 80’s. It’s definitely showing its age.

Mayweather vs McGregor

There is plenty of action going around at Las Vegas sports books for the upcoming Mayweather vs McGregor “exhibition” taking place at T-Mobile Arena on August 26. As of August 1, the fight has not sold out so the question remains whether there will be closed circuit events around town. My guess is that there will be and the fight – one way or another – will indeed sell out. MGM has exclusivity so expect watch parties to be announced at places such as MGM, Mirage, Bellagio, and Aria.
