Las Vegas Sports Book News – No Sports Book for the New Cromwell
First it was Barbary Coast, then it was Bill’s Gamblin’ Hall, and in just a couple of months, The Cromwell will open at the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Flamingo Road. Caesars Entertainment’s latest redo of the building will bring an upscale boutique-style hotel to the Las Vegas strip – what it won’t include is a sports book. At most resorts around town, visitors are greeted with slot machines, table games, poker rooms and sports books of varying sizes. But in the age of computers, smartphones and tablets, it’s no surprise that Caesars has decided to opt out of a traditional sports book and will instead provide an automated kiosk at the new casino.
Although it is kind of a downer that this new upscale spot on the strip won’t have a sports book, there are still plenty of sports book options nearby. Bally’s and Bellagio both have spacious sports books while Caesars Palace is also nearby, albeit more of a walk compared to the aforementioned resorts.
Also long gone is the Victorian Café, which was a great spot for a cheap breakfast or a late night meal. I’m glad I got to enjoy a dish there a little over a year ago before Bill’s was shuttered for the renovation. One of the many things that makes Las Vegas great is how much things change over a short period of time. It seems like there is always a new restaurant to visit or something new to see at a casino. But sometimes, particularly in this case with Barbary Coast/Bill’s Gamblin’ Hall, I would prefer that some (not all) of the old stuff would just be made better or re-invented, not obliterated. Or as in this case with the sports book kiosk – automated.
