The Cosmopolitan is celebrating its 5th birthday this week and it has been “cool” from the start. Profits, however, have not been so cool until recently as new leadership at the “Cosmo” is starting to turn things around from a profitability standpoint.
Changes to the casino area have contributed to the turn around. A new high limit slot room as well as re-evaluating and changing some of the spaces (we miss you Book and Stage) around the main casino floor have taken place. With those changes now comes confirmation of a new sports book at the Cosmopolitan.
The Line Outside the Cosmopolitan Sports Book During March Madness
Bill McBeath, who took over the reins as Cosmopolitan CEO one year ago, discussed the new sports book set up on KNPR. The new Cosmopolitan sports book is slated to be located on the first floor in the southeast corner of the casino. This will certainly provide much better visibility than the not-well-thought-out current location of the Cosmopolitan sports book on the second floor next to the Club Marquee entrance.

Other nuggets about the new Cosmopolitan sports book include:
8,000 square feet of space, which will be over triple the size of the current sports book size of 2,500 square feet.
A 22-seat bar area with screens, which will surely contain some table top video poker/slots.
Lounge or “living room” style seating.
90-inch screens that can be configured to show one or multiple sporting events.
The extra space and the screens alone will undoubtedly make the new Cosmopolitan sports book one of the nicest along the Las Vegas Strip. Its new high-visibility location near the entrance to the casino certainly won’t hurt either. A timeframe still hasn’t been discussed but expect the new sports book to be up and running by mid-year 2016.
