Watching and Betting Football in Las Vegas

Great Spots to Watch & Bet on Football in Las Vegas

Football returns and for sports fans visiting Las Vegas; autumn weekends have plenty of great options to catch NCAA Football and NFL action. There are great places all over town – sports books, restaurants, bars – all have something unique to offer for football fans. Which Las Vegas spots are the best for enjoying football? There are several options, and yes, most are the tried and true sports books. But we’ve thrown in several other spots as well, including places off-strip and downtown.

There really aren’t many bad places in Las Vegas to watch football. Whether you’re in the heart of the strip at a place like The Mirage, off-strip at a fun place like The Orleans, or hanging out on Fremont Street, you really can’t go wrong. Here are a few of The Vegas Parlay’s favorites.

Las Vegas Super Book (Westgate)

The recently renovated Las Vegas Super Book is the world’s largest and provides a great set up for watching football within their sports book space. On top of that, a separate theater that holds over 1,500 people is opened up on NFL Sundays for the ultimate football viewing party – “Football Central.”

Cheap food & drink in the theater, easy parking access, a large-sized and very comfortable sports book make this spot a winner. The Super Book is also one of the most liberal when it comes to comped drinks – no drink tickets needed, just have your betting ticket(s) visible and the cocktail servers take care of the rest. The screens at the Super Book have been recently updated and are now one of the most impressive of all Las Vegas sports books.

Extra Points – The Football Central party on Sundays in the Theater is a non-smoking event. Also, the Fan Cave section at the rear of the sports book is also smoke free and a great place to relax and watch some football.

Mirage Sports Book

The Mirage reconfigured things a couple of years ago and sports viewing here is amongst the best on the strip. A jumbo Sony 4K HD screen upgrade adds to the appeal at The Mirage sports book. As big as this place is, it can still get pretty packed so get here early on football weekends as this spot is standing room only by kickoff. The HD screen set up is huge and can break up into smaller screens to show multiple games. The Mirage sports book is still as classy and plush as it was when it opened 25 years ago. Ticket writers can be pretty loose with drink tickets……if you are tipping.

Extra Points – The Mirage sports book will get really crowded on football weekends and good viewing areas are at a premium. Places for “sports book food” are limited, however a California Pizza kitchen is directly adjacent (no to go orders if you can believe that). BLT Burgers has a great set up for watching football – multiple flat screens throughout the restaurant.

Del Mar Lounge at South Point

The Del Mar Lounge is a very large space located directly adjacent to the South Point sports book. It’s a big area that still gets plenty busy during football weekends and March Madness but I’ve always been able to find a comfy spot here. This is a great place if you are with a small to moderate sized group. Drink tickets at the adjacent sports book are easy to come by and the South Point generally has good drink specials at all casino bars.  There are tons of flat screens at the Del Mar Lounge and the jumbo screen at the sports book is visible from many of the seating areas within the lounge.

Extra Points – The South Point is off strip (15 minutes south of Mandalay Bay) so you may not venture out that way unless you are at the M Resort, Silverton, or actually staying at South Point. If you want cheap eats, the $1.25 hot dog cart is only a few steps away from the sports book. The Del Mar Deli is also close by and provides many food choices.

Five50 Pizza Bar at Aria

Be careful as you walk by this pizza joint at the Aria because the piped in air freshener wafting through the casino will be replaced by the great smell of an award winning chef’s pizza creations at Five50. Not only can you enjoy some of the best pizza on the strip with a solid beer selection, there are flat-screens above the centrally located bar that are visible from virtually every seat in the restaurant.

Extra Points – The Aria sports book is directly adjacent to Five50 Pizza. If you want to enjoy the lounge set up and premium screens at the sports book, you can simply take a to-go order of pizza next door and enjoy. Conversely, when the Aria sports book is packed and kickoff is approaching, Five50 Pizza is a great option to catch the game accompanied with some great food.

Longbar at The D

The Longbar at The D is just that – the longest bar in Las Vegas. It is also one of the better places to catch a football game, as the sight lines from the bar to the multiple HD flat screens along the wall are excellent.  William Hill operates a sports book that is literally a 2-minute walk from The Longbar via the escalator to the second floor of The D, so getting some action down on a game is easy.

Extra Points – The Longbar is a fun place and there is music usually pumping (sometimes very loudly) from the connected casino area. For some tasty and inexpensive grub, walk over to American Coney and order a coney dog to-go and take it back to the Longbar and pair it with a beer. It doesn’t get much better than that while watching some football.

Twin Peaks

Twin Peaks, perched above Planet Hollywood, is known for its 29-degree beer and yes, it is ice cold. What I enjoyed during my visit here is that my mug of beer stayed cold throughout my whole meal. There are tons of HD screens at Twin Peaks and spectacular views of the strip as the restaurant is perched above Las Vegas Boulevard. On a beautiful autumn day in Vegas, it really is hard to beat.

Extra Points – The food options here are acceptable but you really go to Twin Peaks for the 29-degree beer and of course, the pretty servers. It would be nice if sports betting kiosks were available here, however, the walk to the Planet Hollywood sports book is a short one so the sports betting window is never far away – and your beer will most likely stay cold while you’re getting in some sports betting action.

Palazzo Lagasse’s Stadium

The former location of Jay Z’s 40/40 Club, Lagasse’s Stadium is one of the more unique sports books in all of Las Vegas. The space is a hybrid stadium/lounge set up that caters to an upscale crowd. If you want to impress friends or business associates, Lagasse’s Stadium is the spot…but be prepared to pay for the luxury as per person minimums of up to $100 for couch accommodations are the norm on football weekends. Reservations are recommended.

Lagasse's Stadium Seating

Lagasse’s Stadium Seating – Fancy

Extra Points – There are no free drinks for sports bettors – CG Gaming operates the sports book here and comped drinks is not a part of their program. Again, reservations must be made way in advance to assure seating or you can roll the dice and hope for an empty seating area. Lagasse’s is super-popular and it seems to be perpetually sold out on big sports days so plan ahead.

Blondies

There are over 40 screens for your viewing pleasure at Blondies Sports Bar located in the Miracle Mile Shops within Planet Hollywood. This is a fun place to catch NFL or college football. A lot of drink options and specials as well as beer pong for the frat crowd. Blondies is a lively place and gets very loud during games – the atmosphere is great. The Planet Hollywood sports book is a short walk through the Miracle Mile shops so you can make your sports bets there before heading to Blondies.

Blondies – Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood

Extra Points – Stick to breakfast here – morning grub is actually very good here and is available during  the early part of the day when NFL and College football games are kicking off. Blondies is also an Ohio State Bar so there is usually a contingent of Buckeye fans on Saturdays.

Bellagio Race & Sports Book

The Bellagio boasts what is arguably the plushest sports book in town and you will be hard pressed to find fancier digs. The Bellagio recently remodeled their seating area to include more spaces for sports players. This larger space however is now mostly a lounge set up that could potentially mean more reserved seating. Even so, there are plenty of oversized leather captain chairs occupying a large section of the sports book and watching football here is quite a treat if you can get here early to find a spot.

Extra Points –For convenience, there are bathrooms connected to the sports book (not all sports books have this luxury). Drink tickets can be had pretty easily if you’re betting horses and if you’re betting sports, a tip will do the trick.  If you want to keep the “upscale” going for your football watching, the Lily Bar and Lounge, located just a short walk from the sports book is a nice spot with plenty of HD screens showing sports during the day.
