College Football Pick of the Week

Navy-Notre Dame OVER 56  With four-year starting quarterback Keenan Reynolds among the school’s all-time best at the position, the Midshipmen have one of their better teams in recent years under eighth-year head coach Ken Niumatalolo.

On any given Saturday, Navy can score on virtually any defense as its option offense provides a unique look and challenge to the opposition.

Defense, however, is a different proposition as the Midshipmen historically are not equipped in the back four to take on major college wide receivers and complex passing attacks. In fact, prior to becoming a member of the American Athletic Conference this season, Navy mostly scheduled a smorgasbord of similarly-talented schools, mostly devoid of downfield playmakers. Notre Dame has been the notable exception.
Navy vs Notre Dame: Expect Some Offense in South Bend on Saturday.

The Fighting Irish, who also routinely play Air Force, have averaged 49.5 points in their last six games against the service academies. Irish wide receiver Will Fuller, who is projected by many pundits as a Top 10 selection in next spring’s NFL Draft, poses a particularly difficult matchup problem for the Middies.

Technically, Navy is 11-4 ATS to the over when cast in the role of a double-digit underdog. Expect lots of points Saturday in South Bend and take the over.
