College Basketball Free Picks 1/2/21

**Providence +4.5 vs Creighton: Creighton is 37% ATS this season as favorites. Their offense is elite but Xavier may have found some weaknesses as the Blue Jays scored a season low 66 points. Providence on the other hand held Butler to 55 points a few days back. The Friars are solid coming off a straight up win sporting a 6-2 ATS record so far this season. Experienced and tough, Providence senior center Nate Watson should be a handful in the paint as well. My money is on the home dog.

**Iowa -3 at Rutgers: Rutgers is a serious squad, and more often than not, they go toe to toe offensively with most opponents – I don’t think that will play here, as the speed and offensive firepower of Iowa will thrive under that circumstance. There is a clear advantage to Iowa from the free throw line as Rutgers is an uninspiring 62% from the charity stripe. As good as Iowa is, there hasn’t been the statement win for them yet….I think it comes here.

**Niagara PICK at Marist: Niagara’s underlying numbers are simply heads and shoulders above what Marist shows – particularly in assists and turnover comparisons. Niagara lost by 2 yesterday to Marist and I see the tables being turned here. Niagara should be favored and I’ll take the pick em all day. Niagara with the 24 hour revenge game is a solid play here.

**Evansville +6.5 vs N Iowa: Evansville is an improving squad. Underlying numbers are headed in the right direction and their recent double digit win vs. a solid Southern Illinois team confirms the improvement. Neither of these squads are world beaters, so getting a good amount of points with a home underdog that is improving is worth a play.

**Richmond -5.5 vs St. Bonaventure: I think the Bonnies are running into a buzz saw here as they visit Richmond in this Atlantic 10 match up. Richmond has more depth than St. Bonaventure and I have some concern over the status of Bonnie junior guard Jaren Holmes who left last game with a back issue. Richmond’s defense has been solid enough and scoring in the mid 70s should do the trick to cover here. Take the Spiders at home.

**Tennessee -10 vs Alabama: I absolutely love the effort Tennessee displays on defense that simply frustrates opponents, which in turn plays right into their offensive approach that features balanced scoring and several players that can rebound. Alabama has scored 80+ points in all of their wins this season – when they fail to score 80, the Crimson Tide is 0-3 straight up and ATS. I don’t see them coming close to 80 points here. I’m on the Volunteers to cover the big number.

**Oregon State -3 vs Cal: Cal has only covered one road game this season (1-3 ATS) and the one game they covered was by a 1/2 point in a 13 point loss to Oregon. The Beavers are simply a different team when they are at home vs a Pac-12 opponent and they should handle a Cal squad they beat by 8 in late November.
