Congrats Las Vegas sports book bettors – you hammered the sports books on Sunday.
Las Vegas sports books were hit hard by sports bettors as NFL favorites went 9-4 against the spread on the first Sunday of pro football. When favorites win, sports books generally don’t do well as the public leans towards the chalk when making bets at the sports book window. Sunday wrapped up with the underdog New York Giants covering the spread vs. the Dallas Cowboys, further compounding things for Las Vegas sports books. For comparison, last year, favorites went 3-10 in week 1 of the NFL providing a boon for Las Vegas sports books.
But not all favorites turned a profit in Las Vegas sports books, CG Technology, which operates sports books at the Cosmopolitan, Venetian, and Hard Rock among others, took big number (5 and 6-figure dollar amount) bets on the underdog Rams to cover the spread vs. the visiting Seahawks. The Rams went on to win outright.
But don’t feel bad for Las Vegas sports books. There’s 2 NFL games Monday night to perhaps partially salvage the week. And of course, there is inevitably several upcoming NFL Sundays where the sports books will crush….it’s just the way it is.
