March Madness is Over – Las Vegas Sports Books Keep Rolling

March Madness is over – Las Vegas sports books keep rolling.  The NCAA Tournament has concluded and football won’t kickoff for several months. Even so, there’s plenty cooking in Las Vegas sports books between now and the start of NFL and College football.

MLB

Major League Baseball betting is not as glamorous as football or March Madness, however there are some nice odds that can be had betting MLB, especially when you go the parlay route. MLB games run just about every day throughout the spring and summer so there are plenty of betting opportunities available – money lines, run lines, and totals can be played and some spots will offer select prop plays. William Hill offers a  1st inning MLB prop that is a great way to get a day of baseball started.

Horse Racing Triple Crown

The first Saturday in May is a busy one for most Las Vegas sports books as Kentucky Derby wagering attracts both expert and novice horse bettors alike. Caesars Palace serves up mint juleps to horse racing fans on Derby Day and several sports books (Wynn and LVH to name a couple) also offer prop bets on the race to add to the fun. It’s always interesting to see the odds on whether or not there will be a Triple Crown winner fluctuate during the Triple Crown races. The El Cortez hosts a Kentucky Derby party and off-strip locales like the SouthPoint and Gold Coast open up their ballrooms for Derby Day festivities.

NBA  (Playoffs and Finals May/June)

NBA playoff action gets hot and heavy as spring winds down and there are several prop bets that Las Vegas sports books will offer during the Finals. The NBA championship run looks to be wide open this year so there will surely be she fun betting opportunities during the playoffs and championship.

The Masters (Mid April)

This classic golf event takes plenty of action in Las Vegas sports books. Odds to win The Masters are offered on all golfers competing at Augusta. The Masters also kicks off golf prop bets that are offered for the 4 major championships. Tiger Woods is not competing in the Masters this year and the odds on several golfers to win offers up some value. The LVH will have a Links Central event in the Fan Cave area of their sports book during The Masters.

World Cup Soccer

The world’s most popular sporting event has been picking up steam in Las Vegas. This year, the World Cup should garner considerable attention at Vegas sports books as it takes place during the slower part of the calendar as far as sports betting goes. I experienced the World Cup 4 years ago at Caesars Palace and there was plenty of activity and enthusiasm and atmosphere in their spacious sports book. The World Cup will present good betting opportunities as well. My heart will be with Team USA, but my futures bet will be on Brazil if they are available at anywhere around 5/2 odds.

NHL (Stanley Cup June)

The run to the NHL championship begins in late spring and culminates in the Stanley Cup Final in June. Future odds and numerous prop bets are available during the Stanley Cup Finals.

Summer horse racing, NASCAR, Wimbledon Tennis, and Soccer, which includes European leagues as well as World Cup Qualifiers, will all happen during the summer months with odds and point spreads available at most Las Vegas sports books. Even without football or March Madness, there’s plenty to keep the sports book fan entertained in Las Vegas during the toasty summer months.
