Red Sox starting pitcher James Paxton is sporting the highest swinging strike rate (17.9%) and velocity (95.6 MPH) of his career so far in 2023 – his arm is sound. He’s depending more on his 4-seam fastball, which is providing results – Paxton holds a 2.22 ERA over his last 4 starts. Blue Jays bats should be respected, however their OPS number (.735) over the past 30 days has been mediocre at best. The .735 OPS number is only a smidge higher than that of Nationals hitters (.719) over the same time period. All this said, I do not trust Red Sox bats vs Blue Jays SP Jose Berrios. Red Sox batters are hitting .247 in June and their ISO (power metric) number of .148 is bottom third in all MLB. I’ll take the under here with confidence in Paxton and lack of confidence in Red Sox bats.
