MLB Free Pick Thursday Brewers at Mets

Brewers at Mets 4:10 pacific

Mets SP Max Scherzer’s last start at Citi Field was on June 13 vs. the Yankees. He was pulled in the 3rd inning after allowing 6 earned runs. The silver lining was that he did not walk anyone and ended up with a no-decision that day. Aside from the aforementioned debacle vs the Yankees, Scherzer’s other starts at home this season have been money (2.95 ERA & 0.98 WHIP at Citi Field in 2023). I’m not expecting two consecutive bad starts at home from Mad Max. He should be effective today vs. Brewer hitters who are holding a sky high 27% K rate so far in June – 3rd worst in MLB. Brewers SP Adrian Houser can be effective at times – he keeps the ball down and can induce ground balls. He’s no strike out machine however. When he misses his spots, he gets punished. That said, Houser will likely not get stretched today, which means the Brewers bullpen will have to do the necessary work to keep this game under the total. The Brewers bullpen is much improved of late – Milwaukee’s relievers hold a 3.19 ERA over the past month, good for 7th in all of MLB over that time period.
