Venetian Las Vegas – Boxing Party in Sin City

This past weekend, the big fight did not take place in Las Vegas. Actually, it occurred 7,000 miles away in Macau – but The Venetian and Palazzo brought the fight action to Sin City with exclusive screenings for the Pacquiao vs Rios “Clash in Cotai” boxing match. Even when the fight occurs on another continent, Las Vegas has to be in the mix right?

If you have ever been to The Venetian, you already know the beauty of the property from the moment you walk in the door and the massive ballroom holding the boxing viewing event was a sight to behold.  This was the first boxing “viewing party” I attended in Las Vegas and I was certainly impressed. Sugar Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran, and Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini were in attendance and graciously chatted with the boxing fans in the crowd. There was some tasty drinks and food available as well with several bars and catering stations (the street tacos were A+) throughout the ballroom space. The Tecate Girls, in all their glory, were part of the fun as well.

Attending this event was an opportunity to not only rub shoulders with boxing fans and legends of the squared circle, but to also experience the first class amenities and opulence The Venetian has to offer. By the time the fight began, the ballroom was standing room only and there was certainly a buzz in the air as everyone watched on the jumbo HD screens. As the fight went on, it was obvious that many in the crowd had wagered on a Pacquiao knockout – a KO by the Filipino boxer paid 5/8 ($80 to win $50) at the Cantor sports book in The Venetian. Any big punch that landed immediately garnered a roar from the ballroom crowd. Pacquiao won by decision, which paid 3-1 for boxing fans that wagered that the fight would go the distance with a Pacquiao win.

Seeing a big fight in the first class environment of The Venetian was a fantastic experience. I encourage any sports fan, whether you are into boxing or not, that has the opportunity in the future to attend a boxing viewing party while in Vegas to definitely do so!
