College Football Longshots – Rolling the Dice in Las Vegas…While at the Sports Book

College football provided a historic upset earlier this month as one of the biggest underdog victories in recent memory occurred when Texas State defeated Houston 30-13. Certainly an unexpected result as Texas State was a 34-point underdog. But what was probably more unexpected was anyone placing a money line bet (+6000 or 60-1) on Texas State to win outright. Well, that is exactly what happened at Binion’s, whose sports book is operated by Las Vegas newcomer William Hill US. A lucky bettor placed a $2,000 wager on Texas State and collected a cool $120,000 for his efforts.

William Hill, who operates several Vegas sports books in town including the soon to be renovated Plaza sports book Downtown, is one of the only sports book operators that offer money lines (odds with no point spread) for all college football games. While I won’t be making any $2,000 bets in the near future, it certainly is fun to consider seeking out a possible upset or two this college football season and swinging for the fences for a handsome payoff at big odds. Anybody for UMass to upset Michigan at 50-1 (per William Hill odds) this week?

Although they do not have a presence at any of the larger Vegas strip properties, William Hill operates sports books at over 160 locations throughout Nevada – even at selected Buffalo Wild Wings locations. Las Vegas Strip and Downtown sports book locations operated by William Hill include; Plaza, Binion’s, Golden Gate, Riviera, and Hooter’s.

If you’re visiting Las Vegas and plan to do some sports betting, it might be worth your while going off the beaten path to get big odds at a William Hill run sports book.
