NCAA Football Free Pick of the Week from Paul Stone

Western Michigan -7 over Georgia Southern

With a pair of September victories over a pair of Big 10 opponents (Northwestern and Illinois) and its conference opener on deck, Western Michigan might appear to be primed for a letdown facing a Sun Belt Conference opponent.

But Georgia Southern is not just any ol’ Sun Belt team. At least not in the collective minds of the Broncos. Last year as a 4.5-point home underdog, Georgia Southern executed its option offense to near perfection, rushing for 413 yards en route to a surprisingly one-sided 43-17 victory over Western Michigan.

The Broncos have not forgotten and should bring their full measure of energy to the table. Look for quarterback Zach Terrell and wide receiver Corey Davis, a pair of fourth-year starters, to hook up frequently as they take advantage of a rebuilt Georgia Southern secondary ravaged by graduation.

Lay the points and take Western Michigan.
