Today’s MLB Plays / Free Picks

White Sox at Dodgers  7:10pm pacific Dodger Stadium

One walk in his last 9 innings pitched and an elevating swinging strike rate shows that Dodgers SP Michael Grove is improving and better than his current 8.28 ERA would indicate. This is a good spot for the young righty vs. a White Sox team that has one of the lowest batting averages vs RHP in all of baseball. White Sox SP Dylan Cease has put together two good starts coming into tonight’s game at Chavez Ravine. Dodgers bats have cooled off a tad in June, posting a .238 batting average so far this month. Their homerun number remains strong however and Dylan Cease is usually good for allowing one long ball per game.. The Dodgers should bounce back tonight and get the rubber game of the series – both starting pitchers, Michael Grove and Dylan Cease, should be effective tonight as well.

The Bets: Under 5 (first 5 inn)  & Dodgers -140

Nationals at Astros  5:10pm pacific Minute Maid Park

Mackenzie Gore has been money on the road in 2023 striking out 52 batters in in 39 innings pitched away from DC. Expect Nationals skipper Dave Martinez to send out a lefty-heavy batting lineup vs Astros starter Cristian Javier, whose fly ball tendencies and lack of an out pitch vs lefty batters may bite him today. This is a good first 5 inning number at +155 for the Nats, which offers strong value with Mackenzie Gore, who is in better form than Javier.

The Bet: Nationals +155 (first 5 inn)

Phillies at Dbacks  12:40pm pacific Chase Field

Diamondbacks SP Ryne Nelson carries a nice 3.04 ERA over the last month but his struggles at Chase Field are evident given his 6.62 ERA and 1.70 WHIP at home so far in 2023. Phillies starter Aaron Nola sports an ERA over 5.00 in his road starts – Diamondbacks batters have had success against Nola as well. Both bullpens find themselves in the lower half of MLB in ERA, which is further reason to look at the over in a game that features two hot hitting teams and below average pitching all the way around.

The Bet: Over 9
