MLB Plays of the Day

White Sox at Dodgers (7:10 pm pacific Dodger Stadium Los Angeles)

This is a tough number to lay (-175) but this is an excellent spot for Dodgers starter Tony Gonsolin. He should be backed with confidence tonight vs. a White Sox team that is struggling offensively. Gonsolin holds a 2.00 ERA and a WHIP under 1.00 at Dodger Stadium over the past 3 seasons. We won’t leave anything to chance in the later innings given LA’s bullpen struggles, so we’ll go with a first 5 innings play here.

The Play: Dodgers -175 (first 5 innings)

Marlins at Mariners (6:40 pm pacific T-Mobile Park Seattle)

Seattle’s ISO (Isolated Power) numbers are down hard over the past two weeks so I’m intrigued with Marlin’s starter Edward Cabrera’s propensity to induce grounders (55% over the last month), which should equate to a greatly reduced chance of Mariners long-balls tonight. Mariners starter George Kirby is always at the mercy of his low-strikeout/high contact approach, which I’m willing to take a stand against. This is a good number for the underdog Marlins in the Pacific Northwest tonight.

Marlins +131
