Best Las Vegas Sports Books – Planet Hollywood
Planet Hollywood, which marks its 8th year in Vegas after the transformation from the Aladdin, houses one of the more popular Las Vegas sports books along the strip. The Planet Hollywood sports book has the new yet classic feel of a Las Vegas sports book and it really has been that way from the start – it’s a winning formula for this spot.
Not much has changed about the decor of the Planet Hollywood sports book over the years. The oversized leather seats, positioned directly in front of large HD screens, fill up the main sports viewing area. There is a small horse racing area elevated a couple of steps above the main sports book space, which is usually reserved for horse players that frequent the Planet Hollywood sports book.
A particular nuance that is a fun touch to this Las Vegas sports book is the fact that the lighting is very dim, making you feel like you are in a theater or old school cocktail lounge. Not so great when filling out parlay cards but the lighting, or lack thereof, certainly gives one a relaxing feel as well as making the LED odds boards and video screens more vibrant.
At the Planet Hollywood sports book, there’s a confluence of good food choices if you are going to hunker down for the day. Earl of Sandwich and Pin Up Pizza – two spots with really tasty food, are only a few steps away. In addition to that, the lounge connected to the sports book was recently modified and converted into a restaurant: “Ringers” Wings, Pizza, and Sliders serves a full menu with about a dozen beers on tap. Several options here so getting some grub to take back to your seat at this Las Vegas sports book shouldn’t be a problem.
The Planet Hollywood sports book is one of the more predictable spots when pursuing drink tickets. If you tip, you’ll be in business. This is true at several Las Vegas sports books, however some spots may be a bit inconsistent with the amount of drink tickets doled out even when you tip. During my several visits to the Planet Hollywood sports book over the years, tipping a couple of bucks has gone a long way. The ticket writers have a tip jar sitting right at the betting counter – it’s not hard to miss. Drink tickets can be redeemed at the adjacent bar or with one of the cocktail servers that will come by periodically.
For a modern yet a bit of an old school Las Vegas sports book feel, Planet Hollywood is a great bet. Get there early on busy sports days (March Madness, NFL, College Football) as the seating areas tend to fill up early at this popular Las Vegas sports book.
